From a tiny seed grows the mighty baobab treeSundiata: An Epic African Folktale
Sundiata is a multi-media theatrical production that features a classic African folktale depicting the life and times of Maghan Mari Djata Keita known throughout history as Sundiata Keita. It is a portrait of the trials and triumphs of a crippled boy who grew to be the builder and ruler of the world renowned Mali Empire during the 13th Century as foretold before his birth.
The Project
The Sundiata project is a collaboration of Delou Africa, Inc. and Village Tree Enterprises. The production will feature artists from throughout Florida and will utilize the Art of Djaliya–the craft of the oral historian in their role to maintain the continuum of history for their people through music, song, dance, poetry, storytelling, and visual art. This ancient and highly regarded communal system will serve as the platform for a folkloric production to premiere in the Miami area and a tour to pass the message of this performance on to young people throughout the state of Florida.
Our Goal
As we bring this shared history of ancient Africa to life it is our goal to uplift and inspire underserved communities and all others who appreciate African heritage throughout Florida. Additionally, we seek to pass on the timeless lesson of the human capacity to overcome obstacles in order to realize the greatness of our individual and communal purpose.
